Description of Work:

• The nutritionist’s primary role is to provide nutrition services to clients eligible for the Women, Infant, and Children Special Supplemental Food Program (WIC) in Rutherford and McDowell Counties. These services include certifying for WIC program eligibility, direct nutrition education, counseling, and outreach.
• This position is responsible for interviewing, assessing, counseling and certifying clients for WIC nutrition services. The Nutritionist will function as a team member of the Foothills Health District.
• Interview and assess clients by collecting appropriate data, evaluating the client’s current and past Anthropometric (height, weight, BMI, birth weight, birth length, parental BMI), Biochemical (hemoglobin, blood lead), Clinical and Medical history (pregnancy history, substance abuse, medical conditions, medications, immunizations, and other information), Dietary (concerns, food availability, appropriate foods and practices for age, special diet, food safety, dietary supplements, oral health, and intake), and Eco-social (food security, working stove/refrigerator/microwave, breastfeeding support, drug/alcohol abuse, foster care, or caretaker abilities).
• Develop a plan of care along with clients.
• Assign appropriate food packages.
• Motivate clients to change nutrition behaviors, being able to communicate nutrition information in a manner clients can understand and use, especially when low-literacy or non-English speaking.
• Record information in medical records and/or WIC system.

Minimum Education And Experience:

Graduation from a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education-approved Didactic Program in Dietetics; or Dietetic Technician, Registered with the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education with a bachelor’s degree in any subject area from an accredited four-year college or university; or a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Community Nutrition from an accredited four-year college or university.

Necessary Special Qualifications:

Specialized knowledge in principles and application of nutrition and dietetics to improve health outcomes. Knowledge of relevant medical terminology and skill in documenting in the medical record. Ability to deliver nutrition education programs and communicate with individuals and small groups. General knowledge of behavior change theory and learning theory. General knowledge of life-cycle nutrition with preference for knowledge of maternal and child nutrition, and lactation.

Description of Work:

• The Medical Office Assistant (MOA) role is to provide nutrition services and complete eligibility information to participants of The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) for the Foothills Health District in Rutherford and McDowell counties.
• Prefer someone who is bilingual in Spanish, and this would mean interpreting between client, health care provider, and clinic staff members.
• Complete family assessment field in Crossroads (WIC software)
• Calls patients daily to confirm upcoming appointment.
• Issue E-WIC cards correctly within NC program guidelines. Explain use of E-WIC cards and redeeming food benefits.
• Maybe required to travel and work in Rutherford County as needed.
• Other duties as outlined in the job description.

Minimum Education And Experience:

High school or GED is required. Completion of a one-year formal training course in medical office assisting at a community college or technical institute; or High school or General Educational Development diploma and a combination of one year of clerical and health related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Basic everyday living skills, the ability to understand and follow directions as well as the ability to read, write, add and subtract. Vocational or business skills such as fax machines and computers. The ability to communicate effectively with the public and staff and maintain professional relationships with providers of services. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.

Description of Work:

• Participate primarily in screening, referring, information gathering, and client follow up.
• Provides injections and immunizations, screens clients, obtains pertinent data, collects vital signs and specimens, assists the physician as needed and prepares and cleans laboratory.
• This position will perform lab duties for Family Planning Clinics and help with the interview process of clients.
• Will be required to work at McDowell Health Department, Marion, NC as needed.

Minimum Education And Experience:

Graduation from a State accredited program of Practical Nurse education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

General knowledge of practical nursing techniques in the routine care and treatment of stable, subacute, convalescent, and chronically ill clients; general knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene, basic health and safety practices applicable to work area. Ability to make accurate observations of clients and families, and to record and communicate this clearly; ability to understand the special physical and emotional problems of clients, and to establish and maintain effective working relationship with them and their families; ability to work with others in the performance of these duties and assisting with other routine tasks of a reasonably high level of complexity.
